Is Online TRT Legal and Safe in Utah?

Testosterone is a controlled substance, so online TRT has rules. Here is what a legitimate telehealth clinic has to do, and the warning signs of one that cuts corners.

The short answer

Yes, when it is done properly

Telehealth testosterone therapy is legal in Utah when a provider licensed in Utah evaluates you, confirms the diagnosis with lab work, and prescribes through a licensed pharmacy. Because testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance under federal law, prescribing it remotely also has to follow federal telemedicine rules.

Under the current federal telemedicine flexibilities, a provider can prescribe controlled substances after a live audio-video visit without a prior in-person exam. Those rules have been extended several times, so a good clinic tracks them closely. Fortem Health does a live video visit before any first prescription regardless.

What a legitimate clinic does

Safety steps that should never be skipped

  • A provider licensed in Utah, with your visit held while you are physically in Utah
  • Two morning blood tests confirming low testosterone, plus symptoms
  • A live video visit before the first prescription
  • A baseline blood count, PSA where appropriate, and other safety labs
  • Follow-up labs after starting, then at regular intervals
  • Medication from a licensed US pharmacy, in your name, with a prescription label
Red flags

Signs an online TRT source is not legitimate

Unsupervised testosterone can raise your red blood cell count, worsen sleep apnea and shut down fertility without anyone watching for it. The monitoring is what makes TRT safe.

  • Testosterone offered without lab work or a real visit
  • No monitoring after you start
  • Products sold as research chemicals or not for human use
  • Medication shipped from overseas or without a pharmacy label
  • Promises of specific results or doses before anyone sees your labs
How Fortem does it

If treatment fits, a licensed pharmacy fills your prescription and bills you directly at its own price, with no Fortem markup. Your care team schedules follow-up labs and renewals. Membership is $99 a month, and the initial provider consult is $75 for founding members.

Questions

Frequently asked

Do I need an in-person visit to get TRT online?

Under the current federal telemedicine rules, a live video visit can take the place of an in-person exam for starting a controlled substance like testosterone. Fortem Health requires a live video visit before any first prescription.

Can I get TRT online if I live in Utah but travel?

You need to be physically located in Utah during your visits, because your provider is licensed in Utah. Prescriptions can still be shipped to your Utah address.

Is buying testosterone without a prescription legal?

No. Testosterone is a controlled substance, and buying it without a valid prescription is illegal. Products labeled for research or not for human use are not safe or legal for treatment.

How often will I need labs on TRT?

Usually at baseline, again about 6 to 12 weeks after starting or changing a dose, then every 6 to 12 months once you are stable. Your provider sets the schedule.

Can my own doctor's labs be used?

Yes, if they are recent and include the right tests. Fortem accepts lab results from the last three months.
